Adult Spelling Bee Fundraisers
Picture a room filled with laughter and friendly competition. That’s what an adult spelling bee fundraiser is all about. It’s a fun event where grown-ups come together to show off their spelling skills while raising money for a good cause.
In this spelling bee, adults can compete alone or as part of a team. The words can be both easy and funny, so it’s not just for the best spellers – everyone can have a good time.
The most important part of this event is that it’s all for a good cause. Adults pay to enter the spelling bee, and that money goes to help charities, schools, or other important projects in the community. So, while you’re having fun, you’re also making a positive difference in the world.
To make the event even more exciting, there’s usually someone called an emcee who makes it funny and engaging. Prizes are given to the best spellers or teams to make it even more competitive and fun.
In short, an adult spelling bee fundraiser is a way for adults to enjoy some friendly competition, have a blast with friends and neighbors, and help out their community all at the same time. It’s a win-win for everyone involved! It is a really fun event to add to your fundraising program at school.
But does this really work?
Case study: The library raises $17,000 For Child Literacy
The Montgomery County Imagination Library Board recently hosted its second annual Grown-Up Spelling Bee fundraiser at the Customs House Museum, thanks to the support of Two Rivers Electric. This special spelling bee raised an impressive $17,600 to help young children in Clarksville-Montgomery County get access to books. Every cent of these funds will be used to provide books for kids under 5 years old.
Erin Yow, the board’s fundraising chair, welcomed everyone and shared that the Imagination Library of Montgomery County gives around 9,000 books to preschool children each month. At this adults-only event, teams of grown-ups competed in a fun spelling bee, making the audience laugh as they bribed the judges. Local leaders, including Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, County Trustee Kimberly Wiggins, and Judge Katy Olita, joined as judges, bringing humor and wisdom. The event was hosted by Valerie Guzman, United Way Executive Director, and Michelle Newell, County Public Information Officer, who kept things lively. Darrin Hoffman, the band director at Montgomery Central Middle School, added to the fun with a big gong and humorous music. In the end, “The Super Spellers” and the “‘Real’ Bees” were crowned co-champions, celebrating their spelling skills and entertainment. Congratulations to them!
Lessons Learned From This Event
Here are just a few Spelling Bee Fundraising Ideas that you can apply for your next event.
- Imagine bribing a judge! That is exactly what the contestants did to the panel of judges. What a hilarious way to raise funds.
- They had over 10 local business sponsors for this event. They had an electrical contractor, a realtor, an AC repairman, a credit union and a car wash to mention a few.
- Additionally they raised over $1,400 alone with silent auction baskets. These included gifts and certificates from local chiropractors, massage, spas and salons too.
- These lessons can help monitize either adult of childrens spelling bee contests.
How Does a Students Spelling Bee Fundraiser Work?
Now that we showed how profitable an adults spelling bee can be, lets learn how children spelling bees work. A kids’ spelling bee fundraiser is a super fun way to raise money for a good cause while also having a blast with words! There are 7 steps in total. Here’s how it works:
1. Organizing the Event
First, adults like teachers or parents organize the spelling bee. They choose a date, a place (maybe at school or a community center), and invite kids to participate.
2. Registration
Kids who want to join the spelling bee sign up. There might be a small fee to enter, and this money goes to help the cause, like buying books for the school library or helping a charity.
3. Studying Words
Before the big day, the kids practice spelling words. They might get a list of words to study, and they work hard to learn how to spell them correctly.
4. Event Day
On the day of the event, all the kids gather. There’s usually an adult called a “pronouncer” who says the words, and kids take turns spelling them. If they spell a word wrong, they’re out, but they can cheer on their friends!
5. Winning Prizes
The kids who spell the most words correctly win cool prizes. Sometimes, there are trophies or certificates for the winners. It’s not just about winning, though; it’s about having fun and learning new words.
6. Raising Money
Remember that small fee to enter? Well, that money, along with any extra donations, goes to help the cause that the spelling bee supports. So, even if you don’t win, you’re still making a positive impact. Here are extra ways to raise even more funds.
- Sell snacks using a concessions stand.
- Get sponsors from local businesses.
- Ask the students to get family members to find sponsors to make donations for every word spelled correctly. (Imagine grandma and your aunt donationg $5 for every correct word that is spelled!)
7. Cheering and Support
Parents, teachers, and friends come to watch and cheer on the spellers. This will raise the energy and enthusiasm not only for the spellers but for all in attendance.
In a spelling bee fundraiser, everyone’s a winner because they’re helping others while enjoying the excitement of spelling words. It’s a fantastic way for kids and adults alike to have fun, learn new things, and make a difference in their community—all at the same time!
